Cheers! It’s Friday and you made it though another week. If you drink, you enjoy a glass of wine, a cold beer, or your favorite cocktail. Don’t drink? You deserve to spend an hour however you’d like – enjoying dinner or a movie with friends, alone in a quiet house with a good book…

But in all seriousness, the weeks lately have felt longer and longer and while I’m usually one to grab a glass of wine and be happy, I do enjoy a good cocktail. Thankfully my neighbors do too, so I have been trying lots of tasty beverages, including some I wouldn’t normally try myself.

To finish up #FallFlavors week, I am bringing you an Apple Cider Old Fashioned. This isn’t a cocktail that you can make on the fly, as it does take a bit of forethought (mainly making the cinnamon brown sugar simple syrup), but it was my go-to cocktail last fall. And will be this fall too. Because it really is fall in a glass for me. The cinnamony apple cider flavors and belly-warming bourbon are like being wrapped in a cozy blanket. The sweet apple cider balances out the strong bourbon well, so if a traditional old fashioned is a bit strong for you, this fall twist might be a good alternative. I felt like I was indulging in the most wonderful fall treat (made all the better when I could sneak away with one while losing myself in a good book!).

Recipe Notes for Apple Cider Old Fashioned:

  • I used homemade brown sugar cinnamon simple syrup in this recipe. If you don’t want to make your own, you can use a brown sugar simple syrup or substitute 1 tsp. water and 1 tsp. brown sugar in this recipe – it just won’t have the extra cinnamon flavor.
  • While you can use normal ice cubes, large spheres melt slower and therefore don’t water down your drink as much. A mold isn’t terribly expensive and was a good investment for us. We have one like this (affiliate link).
