This Aperol Grapefruit Margarita combines tart grapefruit, bitter orange Aperol and tequila in a cocktail delicious for brunch or Mexican night.
We’re going on 6 weeks of social distancing slash shelter at home now. Boy has it been a month. I worked for part of those 6 weeks while my husband has been attempting to work full-time from home, all the while we’ve been providing full-time child care and part-time teaching for our two children, the latter with no real guidance from the school system until this week. It’s been exhausting and it’s been stressful.
But it has also been really nice to spend more quality time together. We’ve been outside A LOT, taking walks/bike rides/scooter rides. We’ve been playing board games and doing puzzles. We played doing arts and crafts – from chalk mosaics on the driveway to Perler beads and scrapbooking. This kids and I even made sweets for the U.S. Public Health Service workers working to combat the Coronoavirus, and had lots of movie nights.
Most of all, we’ve been showing ourselves some grace. We’re doing what we can, trying to balance all the different pieces and cutting each other (and ourselves) some slack. What’s most important is that we stay safe and healthy. The rest doesn’t matter so much right now.
But I can tell it’s been a tough time for everyone. I’ve been enjoying more evening wine or cocktails than I probably should. My husband has been enjoying his nightly scotch or bourbon. And you all have been favoring my cocktail recipes. Sure, there are some easy recipes made from pantry staples (like this simple roast chicken) thrown in among my top posts right now, but for the past 6 weeks, you all have liked my cocktails – especially The Frenchy and my Classic Cosmo recipes the best.
A few weeks ago, I shared a new cocktail with you – the Aperol Spritz, introduced to me by my cousin on a girl’s trip last year. But I didn’t want to leave you with just one Aperol recipe for that bottle. I wanted to make sure you have options. Enter this Aperol Grapefruit Margarita.
It’s light, it’s bright. It’s made from fresh grapefruit and lime juice, plus Aperol and tequila. I’d totally drink this with brunch, with all that grapefruit juice in there, but it would also pair well for your next Taco Tuesday, Mexican night, Cinco de Mayo celebration or chips and guac/salsa binge. And yes, I’m sharing it in time for you to consider making it for Cinco de Mayo next week. You’re welcome.

Recipe Notes:
- The original recipe called to top the juice/alcohol mixture with 2 oz. of club soda, which would make it resemble more of a Paloma than a Margarita. In the below, I omitted it, because I enjoyed the tart grapefruit margarita on it’s own, but feel free to add a few ounces just before serving if you prefer.
